Covering more than 1.9 million hectares, it extends from 300 m a.s.l. in the Amazon rainforest to over 4,000 m a.s.l. in the Andes. This territory shelters one of the highest levels of biodiversity on Earth and preserves vast pristine areas. According to oral tradition, the legendary lost Inca city of Paititi may lie hidden deep within this jungle.
